How to Achieve Emotional Sobriety in Recovery

It is not easy for you to achieve emotional sobriety in an instant. All the things which have brought you in so much pain could not be healed that easily. It would take time for you to get back on how you used to be before getting into so much pain. Also, you must have the willingness for you to change as you must not get dictated of what you have to do for you to be able to recover all at once.

Sometimes, you might end up thinking of getting drunk by thinking you could erase all the bad memories you have in your mind. But you are wrong. There is no benefit if you opt to drink and become addicted as well. As a matter of fact, you would not be able to think clearly whenever you drink, thus, would let you do things that are contrary to what you really want to do in the first place.

However, you must not be worried so much. This is because luckily, whatever it is that you have gone through, traumatic or not, the sobriety of your emotions is a state of mind. This means you could actually get to learn it and eventually, acquire it.

First is: Do not conceal what you actually feel

You must never conceal what you actually feel because, in the first place, you need to learn the value of acceptance to be able to be free. So, if you are angry, do not hide it. Instead, show off your emotions and little by little, try to understand why you have to feel it. If you are now able to find out where your problem lies, it would then be your time to be able to face it.

Second is: Do not overthink

Third and lastly is: Do not dwell

It is said that the past must be left behind. Well, sometimes, you could not just let go of what has happened in the past. So, for you to be able to at least get off with some luggage, you have got from your past and try to focus on what is in your present. As a matter of fact, you could never get a chance to undo what has happened in the past, but you can redo what you would like to happen in your future.
